CACAO & SAFETY

CONTRAIDICATIONS

Cacao (Theobroma cacao) is an evergreen tree whose fully fermented fruit seeds, known as “cacao beans,” are the main ingredient in :-

♥️ Cacao Nibs
♥️Cacao Paste
♥️Cacao Butter
♥️Raw chocolate

Cacao contains many bioactive compounds and essential minerals that work together to support immune function, cardiovascular health, enhance cognitive function, elevate mood, and improve mental health, oxidative stress, metabolic syndrome, inflammatory conditions, fatigue, skin health, bone health and overall nutritional health.

It is important to respect the more subtle but still very profound power of this plant medicine - she is not for everyone, but she is for most people! Whilst the health benefits of cacao are vast and scientific studies have shown cacao can assist with many symptoms and conditions naturally, there are a few precautions regarding its compatibility with some health disorders or medications, that should be explored before consuming cacao. Let’s take a look together so you can make your own informed choice before choosing to work with this plant medicine. In my ceremonies I always blend with plant milk and keep to the minimum recommended dose so that those new to cacao have a pleasant experience.

Antidepressants
15-20g dose for anyone taking antidepressants and advise to consult a health care professional if there are any concerns. Those on Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) antidepressants should not consume cacao.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Cacao is generally considered safe in pregnancy and during breastfeeding when taken in moderation. We recommend a serving size of 15-20g for those pregnant or breastfeeding.

IBS
It is best to begin consuming cacao in a smaller quantity (10-20g) to assess sensitivity.

Heavy periods/Bleeding Disorders
Consult with a doctor prior to consumption if you have a bleeding disorder or are consuming any related medication.

Children
It is best for children to begin consuming cacao in a smaller quantity to assess sensitivity (15-20g).

Heart Conditions
Consult with a doctor before using cacao and also begin with a lower dose (15-20g).

High Blood Pressure
Consult with a doctor before using cacao and also begin with a lower dose (15-20g).

Low Blood Pressure
Consult with a doctor before using cacao and also begin with a lower dose (15-20g).

Sensitivities (e.g caffeine or stimulant sensitivities)
It is best to begin consuming cacao in a smaller quantity (15-20g) to assess sensitivity.

Medication use
It is best to consult with a doctor about all drugs and supplements you are using or considering, prior to the consumption of cacao.

If you really dislike the texture/taste
You are not any less spiritual if you don’t like or can’t stomach cacao! It is not for everyone and whilst I prefer the Elements for Life cacao I trained in, there are many other ceremonial cacaos available for you to try…..or choose to not try! Please speak to be before any ceremony if this is the case as THE most important part of circle is that everyone feels truly seen, heard and accommodated for.

If you have any concerns at all please text me via WhatsApp message on 07781133940 and I can make appropriate adaptions so you can still take part in any cacao ceremony with me.

CACAO & essential oil best practice

HOW TO GET THE VERY BEST OUT OF YOUR CACAO & essential oil RITUALS

Ceremonial Cacao is not hot chocolate! Just like essential oils aren’t just nice smells (in fact many are not!) They contain deep, ancient and sacred heart opening properties and there are several ways you can begin working with these plant medicine(s) to get the very out of your experiences:-

Creating your sacred space
The beautiful thing about ritual and spiritual practice is that it is totally yours! You may wish to light some candles, sit/lay on a yoga mat or blanket, you may choose to incorporate flowers, crystals or other nature elements such as leafs, pine cones or dried herbs. You may like to use oracle cards or display your sacred items on a wooden alter. - There are no ‘rules’ here!

Clearing your sacred space
Once you are set up you can begin to clear any negative energies from your space. You can smoke cleanse using a range of dried herbs available here. Or if smoke cleansing isn’t appropriate (due to asthma/safety issues/the consideration of others) you may wish to use a cleansing hydrosol such as Palo Santo or blend available here.

✨Bringing a beginners mind
Just like at the start of your reiki therapy or your yoga practice try to bring in a beginners mind. Letting go of any previous experiences you have had with cacao or essential oils and viewing this special time with the curiosity and maiden energy of a small child.

✨Bringing in intension
As you make your ceremonial cacao/ blue lotus tea begin to direct your energies away from the automatic ‘doing’ and into the gentle ‘being’. Slow EVERYTHING down! Feel your hands on the wooden spoon, stirring the cacao or the texture of the cup in you hands.

Consider where the plants/trees grew and all the people who have helped to bring the cacao to you today. Send your love and gratitude deep into the spiritual realms as you slowly sip your drink and inhale your oils.

✨Reviewing your downloads/Conscious journalling
The secret here is to not let your logic mind interfere too much (and it will bloody well try too!) try not to work out what everything ‘means’ or write in any special way, just drawing or scribbling whatever images, colours, textures, creatures or words that revealed themselves to you. Over time you will suddenly realise the significance of what you where being shown of that I am sure!

Happy journeying and hope to see you in the Red Tent sometime soon.
